[origin: WO2004007004A1] Disclosed is a veterinary syringe comprising a base body (2), on the front side of which a syringe cylinder (5) receiving the medicament is arranged while a guiding element (10) for a piston rod (7) that is guided therein so as to be movable in a longitudinal direction is arranged on the rear side thereof. One end of said piston rod (7), to which a piston (8) is fixed, extends into the syringe cylinder (5). The inventive veterinary syringe also comprises a handle (4) for holding the syringe (1), an operating lever (13), one end (14) of which is pivotably fixed to the lower part (15) of the handle (4) while the other end (16) thereof is guided within the bottom side (3) of the guiding element (10) and engages with a toothed rack (11) via a spring-biased catch (12), said toothed rack (11) being disposed on the bottom side of the piston rod (7), and a locking device (27) for the piston rod (7), which engages with the toothed rack (11), is embodied as a locking slider (29) that is disposed inside the guiding element (10) so as to be movable in a vertical direction at the end thereof, is provided with an opening (32) through which the piston rod is guided (7), and extends into the toothed rack (11) from below, locking said toothed rack (11) so as to prevent it from withdrawing. The locking slider (29) can be moved from the locked position into a released position for the toothed rack (11) and can be maintained in said released position by means of an actuator, said locking slider (29) being extended in the direction of the operating lever (13) so as to protrude from the guiding element (10) in a downward direction. Said extension is provided with a borehole (33). The operating lever (13) comprises a locking bolt (34) which runs parallel to the piston rod (7) and extends into the borehole (34) when the operating lever (13) is in a position of rest and the locking slider (29) is pressed down through the guiding element (10) all the way to the locking bolt (34) counter to the force of a spring (31).
