The discharge lamp has a discharge vessel (1) with an ionisable filling enclosed gas-tight in its interior (10), whereby the vessel has at least one sealed end (11) with a current lead-through connected to an electrode (4) protruding into the interior of the vessel and with a section (403) extending into the sealed end. At least the section of the electrode extending into the sealed end is in the form of a braid.
