[origin: WO03060221A1] During the operation of the shuttle machine, the drawing tension of the shuttle thread (19) is controlled by means of a controllable operating body (31) according to the requirements of stitch formation. The control is carried out by means of the stitching programme. The drawing tension may also be manually set. An actuator body may be activated by the controller of the sewing machine, which displaces an operating rod which co-operates with all operating bodies (31). The closer the pressure roller (43) of the operating body (31) is brought to the base of the shuttle (15), the stronger the leaf spring (27) is pressed against the shuttle thread and, thus, the drawing tension is all the greater, in other words, the force required to draw shuttle threads from the shuttle (10').
