[origin: WO03060294A1] The invention relates to a switched cam follower (1) or to a switched support element of a valve gear of an internal combustion engine. Said follower or element comprises an outer part (2) which is assembled with an inner part (4) that is mobile relative thereto in the direction of cam travel. Said inner part (4), at its separation gap (5) to the outer part (2), is provided with two spaced apart or opposite openings (6, 7) for coupling means. Said openings (6, 7), in a cam position, are aligned with one further opening (10, 11) each for coupling means in the outer part (2). The coupling means are configured and arranged in such a manner that, when coupled, one each on a coupling side (12, 13) extends across the separation gap (5) in such a manner that it extends simultaneously inside the opening (10, 6) of the outer and inner part (2, 4). According to the invention, in a decoupled position of the coupling means (14, 16), an axial empty run of the coupling means (15) on the one coupling side (12) is large up to the moment of coupling and the axial empty run of the coupling means (14) on the other coupling side (13) is small up to the moment of coupling. The invention provides a switched cam follower (1) or a switched support element which can be produced with little complication, has a reduced complexity and substantially reduces the risks of miscouplings.
