Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03063088A2] According to the inveniton, for toll levying (e.g. in public transport or on toll motorways), users contact a central computer of the provider by means of their mobile telephone or a corresponding mobile appliance which is equipped in such a way that it can acquire data relating to its current position (e.g. from a mobile telephony network), thus initialising an automated dialogue between the mobile appliance and said central computer, and a driving protocol which can be used to levy the toll is opened by the central computer. During the automated dialogue, the central computer transmits combinations of control positions relevant to the current position of the mobile appliance and of a time limit to the mobile appliance, and the mobile appliance transmits its current position and an accordance of said position with one of the control positions or a time-out signal. The central computer continues the automated dialogue at least until the first time-out signal, and then ends the dialogue and closes the driving protocol for the attention of a billing system. The inventive toll levying system can be carried out using already widespread mobile appliances (e.g. mobile telephones) which must only be slightly adapted for levying tolls, and existing mobile telephony networks, and can be used in an unchanged manner for by people transport providers (e.g. public transport) and roadway system providers (e.g. toll motorways) for the levying of tolls.
