[origin: WO03066498A1] Disclosed is a friction-driven hoist comprising a cage guided between rails, rails which guide a counterload and are arranged diagonally from the rails guiding the cage, a set of carrying ropes on which the cage and the counterload are suspended via an idle pulley, and a drive unit formed at least by a gearless motor, a driving disk for the carrying ropes, and a brake. The axial length of the drive unit is larger than the diameter thereof. Preferably the inventive friction-driven hoist also comprises an opposite pulley to double-loop the driving disk with the carrying ropes. Only one side of the drive unit (4) is fixed to the inner cage rail (2i) while the opposite side thereof is fixed to the outer counterload rail (3a), the drive unit (4) being positioned in the clear space between said two rails (2i, 3a).
