[origin: WO03067073A1] The invention relates to the detection of the hydraulic shut-off and/or mechanical coupling of a pump-nozzle unit provided with a piezo control valve (22), whereby either the piezo current (i(t)) alone or exclusively the piezo voltage (u(t)) is compared with a predefined threshold value. Either an essentially constant value, preferably zero volts, is forcibly obtained during the detection phase for the piezo voltage (u(t)) which is not taken into consideration for the purpose of said comparison, or an at least essentially constant value of preferably zero volts is forcibly obtained for the piezo current (i(t)) which is not taken into account for the purpose of said comparison.
