Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1475477A2] Applicator assembly (1), giving direct coating application of liquid/paste medium (M) on to surface of moving paper or cardboard web (2), has unit (7) in front of applicator to remove layer of air carried by web. The unit is within wedge entry gap (4) radially towards surface (3a) of web support roller (3). A bar (8) is against web surface (2a), together with blade (11), across direction of travel (L) and over width of applicator (6). The applicator assembly (1), giving a direct coating application of a liquid or paste medium (M) on to the surface of a moving paper or cardboard web (2), has a unit (7) in front of the applicator to remove the layer of air carried by the web. The unit is within the wedge entry gap (4) radially towards the surface (3a) of a web support roller (3). A bar (8) is against the web surface (2a), together with a blade (11), across the direction of travel (L) and over the width of the applicator (6). The downstream end (11a) of the blade extends into the gap, to form a minimum gap between it and the roller surface.
