[origin: EP1475769A2] During the image analysis it is ascertained if the images should be displayed with predominantly dark areas without larger bright areas, in which case a first signal is generated that varies the number of the sustain-pulses for the activation sequences lying within the given time-period, to change the determined brightness ratio. A second signal is generated for influencing the video signal via an amplifier arranged in an analog part of the video signal path, so that the picture brightness change caused by the first signal is at least partly compensated. An independent claim is included for a device for improving the gray scale representation for a PWM-controlled image display.
