[origin: WO03071028A1] The invention relates to a smoothing device of a press system for dewatering a paper sheet, cardboard sheet, tissue web, or another fibrous web (1, 20, 53) in a machine used for the production and/or processing thereof. The fibrous web (1, 20, 53) runs through at least one press gap together with a water-absorbent, rough, continuous band (2, 24) and a continuous, smooth band (3, 25) disposed across from the fibrous web (1, 20, 53). The rough band (2, 24) is directed away from the fibrous web (1, 20, 53) after passing through the press gap. The two-sidedness is reduced in a simple manner by having the smooth band (3, 25) form a smoothing gap with a smoothing element comprising a smooth press surface once the rough band (2, 24) has been directed away from the fibrous web.
