[origin: WO03072321A1] The invention relates to a universal slicer comprising a housing (1), a rotatably mounted revolving blade (2), a positioning plate (3) which is provided with a rest surface (4) for a product that is to be sliced, and a mechanism (5) regulating the width of cut by adjusting the positioning plate (3) in relation to the revolving blade (2). In order to ensure that the slices are cut in a uniform manner, particularly when using universal slicers that have a simple design or are inexpensive to produce, the inventive universal slicer is provided with a tensioning means (11), by means of which the positioning plate (3) can be prestressed free from play counter to the mechanism (5) regulating the width of cut.
