Abstract (en)
[origin: WO03066294A2] The invention relates to wood preservatives on the basis of biocidal quaternary ammonium compounds in non-polar organic solvent to which aliphatic or cycloaliphatic carboxylic acids having 6 to 30 carbon atoms are added. The addition of carboxylic acid results in a good solubility of the quaternary ammonium compounds in the non-polar solvent. The inventive preservatives are especially suited for treating dried and treated woods as they neither impair the dimension stability nor the surface quality of the woods. The combination of biocidal quaternary ammonium compounds and aliphatic or cycloaliphatic carboxylic acids having 6 to 30 carbon atoms is also suitable as a preservative additive for non-polar liquids such as drilling and cutting oils, cooling lubricants, hydraulic liquids, mineral oil-based fuels and lubricants.
