[origin: EP1482272A2] A measuring head (10) is provided with a retracting device (20) for a sensing pin (15), comprising an electric motor-driven feed screw (21), a nut (22) moved by the feed screw (21) and an inclined face (23A) formed on the nut (22); a seesaw member (13) to which the sensing pin (15) is fitted is swung by the linear motion of the inclined face (23A) to retract the sensing pin (15); not only can the retracting speed and the returning speed of the sensing pin (15) be controlled as desired but also can the retracting action of the sensing pin (15) be stopped on the way to make possible its fine positioning. Further, the electric motor (24) may be provided with a manual knob (26), and the sensing pin (15) would be thereby enabled to be manually retracted.

A nut that screws on the screw is obstructed by a stop from turning, and moved along the screw by the turning of the screw. An inclined unit has an inclined face that is in contact with a seesaw unit. The device moves a sensing pin (15) from its measuring position to a retracting position by linearly moving the face to swing the seesaw unit.
