[origin: EP1344507A1] The intervertebral prosthesis has two cover plates (1,2) attached to adjacent vertebrae and a core (10). The core has limited lateral movement with respect to one cover and forms a joint with the other. The core has a joint face (25) to work with the second cover (2). The sliding joint face extends over the same prosthesis cross sectional area and prevents the core from lifting.
