[origin: WO03081739A1] The invention relates to a home and building information system comprising at least one electrical mains supply (38), which is connected to an electrical power lead (39), and comprising a local optical information network (40) for exchanging information and for supplying, controlling and monitoring peripheral devices and terminals (52). The electrical conductor (14) of the mains supply (38) and at least one optical fiber (30) of an optical passive information network (40) are integrated in all components while running parallel to one another. These components comprise, on one side, permanently installed installation lines (24, 30) with plug sockets (12) and variable installations (48) with flexible network cables (32) and plugs (10, 50) on the other. The inventive method provides that this information system is simultaneously used with different standards.
