[origin: EP1489225A2] A papermaking headbox discharges a fibre suspension through a slit to form a paper, carton or tissue web (2.1) on a sieve conveyer (3.1, 3.2) supported by battens (4) transverse to the direction (S) of sieve movement. Each batten has two raised edges (5.1, 5.2) in contact with the sieve under-surface. The first raised edge has wave profile (6) while the second raised edge is essentially straight (7). The first raised edge is the leading edge and the second edge is the trailing edge. The wave detents at the trailing edge describe an angle of 90 to 120 with the crest at the leading edge.
