Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2387406A] The tape dispenser 1, for use with road traffic control uprights 25 such as traffic cones, warning triangles and other similar uprights to form a traffic barrier, comprises a tape cartridge which is hollow to define a tape storage cavity and a spindle rotatably mounted in the storage cavity and upon which a tape 7 is wound. A deploying aperture is located in the cartridge to allow the tape, in use, to be extracted and unwound from the spindle and a receiving element is located on the cartridge for receiving the leading edge of tape from another like cartridge during use. Mounting elements are associated with the lower, in use, part of the cartridge to facilitate the mounting of the cartridge on or about the upper part of the road traffic control upright. The mounting elements preferably engage the uppermost part of the control upright in an interference fit and may include a tubular lower portion shaped to cooperate with the upper portion of the upright with the lower portion comprising flexibly resilient material and/or including slots such that the lower portion is resiliently deformable. The tape preferably includes surface patterns, warning markings, indicia etc. and may comprise or incorporate a reflective material. The dispenser preferably includes a system to facilitate restowage of the tape within the cartridge after use such as a spring biasing system and a releasable lock may be provided to lock the spindle in position when a predetermined amount of tape has been dispensed. The tape leading edge may be provided with a connecting portion designed to be received in a receiving element of a second cartridge and a number of receiving elements may be provided disposed radially around each cartridge. Also claimed is a temporary road traffic barrier formed using the tape dispenser and a method of forming a barrier.
