[origin: EP1493854A1] An assembly (K) converts loose fibres into a non-woven web of varying thickness. The assembly has an all-steel opening cylinder (1) with air-driven fibre discharge to a sieve belt (9) that progressively accumulates fibres. The assembly further has a speed controller that alters the sieve belt speed with respect to the drum speed of rotation. The fibres are discharged by the sieve belt to a cross-layer fibre release arm that converts loose pile fibre to a fleece web. The control system regulates sieve belt speed in proportion to the cross-layer fibre release arm motion. Also claimed a commensurate process to produce a non-woven fibre web.
