[origin: EP1493885A2] An automobile (20) or vehicle park (10) has numerous marked parking bays (12) operated in conjunction with a computer-based access management and position identification system. Each parking bay has a vehicle identification sensor (14a-14d) linked to a data processing station (16) via a non-hard-wired data transmission link. Access to the parking bay is facilitated by a transponder device (30) that is e.g. either a portable credit card style device or is permanently installed within the vehicle.
