Abstract (en)
[origin: WO03076246A1] The invention relates to a system of transporting road vehicles on trains, comprising adapted stations, handling systems and carriages. According to the invention, each carriage comprises: a connecting bar (19) which connects two bogies, the bogie/bar sequence forming trains; a removable shell (1), known as a passable shell, comprising the frame which is open at the two ends thereof, road vehicles being able to enter said shell; and a rigid lining at the central part. The carriages can support the weight of a standard modern road trailer. Said trains can withstand speeds of the order of 200 km/h and can travel on gradients of 35 mm/m due to the fact that the motorisation is distributed over the bogies. Automated handling devices are installed in the stations in order to load/unload the passable shells onto/from the trains. The vehicles embark/disembark the passable shells simultaneously at several points, such that stopping times in train stations of the order of 6 minutes are achieved.
