Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1496155A2] An assembly directly or indirectly applies a coating of liquid or paste to a fast-moving web of paper or carton. The liquid or paste is dispensed by a block of diffuser jets (3) with rectangular outlets directed at a revolving drum (9). Each jet is separated from the adjacent jet by a gusset (4) and discharges towards a revolving transfer drum (9) that is in contact with a revolving doctor (11) in contact with the drum. The assembly has a feed tube (2) extending the full width of the drum. The assembly has an overflow gap (8) in the vicinity of the diffuser block (6) that drains to a recovery tray. If the adhesive coating process is indirect, the glue is applied to the transfer drum (9) and from here to a press gap where it is applied to the paper or carton web.
