Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03085247A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine during which it is monitored whether a time interval, in which a piezoelectric element for injecting fuel into a cylinder should be charged or discharged, overlaps a time interval, in which another piezoelectric element for injecting fuel into another cylinder should be charged or discharged. The invention is characterized in that it is monitored whether, during an injection of a lower priority, the charging or discharging occurs within a preset time interval around the moment of a charging or discharging of an injection of a higher priority. During the operation of the fuel injection system, the intervals of temporal charging and/or discharging flanks (flank overlappings) are determined, and the extent of the delay and/or shortening of the injections of a lower priority with regard to the injections of a higher priority is determined on the basis of this determination.
