[origin: WO03093395A1] The invention is drawn to a fire retardant compositions and method of making thereof. The compositions are prepared by reacting a natural or synthetic polymer containing hydroxyl groups with a catalyst, such as ammonium hydroxide, and an inorganic cross-linking agent that contains at least two ammonium groups per molecule or an inorganic phosphate salt.
