[origin: EP1500733A1] A knitting machine needle (1) has a side-tab (3) extending from roughly the needle (2) mid-point, and a shank (15) with a double L-shaped section (18) terminating in a hook (6). The double L-shaped section (18) has a matching parallel slot (24) that reduces local rigidity. The slit corner radius is greater than the slit width. In a further embodiment the meandering slit may be sub-divided into three discrete straight sections.
