[origin: WO03095596A1] The invention relates to a method for producing C4-C12 fatty acids, according to which: (a) C4-C12 fatty acid methyl esters are, in one stage, completely or partially hydrolyzed with water in the presence of enzymes and with the continuous removal of methanol; (b) the hydrolysate is separated into an organic and an aqueous/alcohol phase, and; (c) the organic phase containing fatty acids and (in the event of partial hydrolysis) fatty acid methyl esters releases non-converted fatty acid methyl esters. A removal of methanol directly from the reaction feedstock leads to increased conversions.
