[origin: DE10334099B3] The assembly conveyor has pairs of feed fingers (5,6), displaced in parallel via main drive belts or chains (3,4), projecting above the surface of an assembly path (2) in alignment with envelope contents compartments (13,14) moved past successive delivery points (A1,A2) for envelope contents. Auxiliary drive chains or belts (9,10) are used for displacement of auxiliary fingers (11,12) at the front end of each compartment, the drives for the main drive belts or chains and the auxiliary drive belts or chains coupled for increasing the relative spacing between the feed fingers and the auxiliary fingers at the delivery point and reducing the relative spacing to correspond to the sheet format size after the delivery point.
