Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03097169A1] The invention relates to a bulkhead for sealing off a tunnel in the event of a fire, which bulkhead seals off a tunnel cross-section in a gas-tight manner by means of an inflatable wall-type hollow body (1). Heat-insulating curtains (2) are disposed on both sides of the pneumatic hollow body (1) for protection from the effects of heat. The hollow body (1) and the curtains (2) are produced from a spacer material, the material of the pneumatic hollow body is additionally coated with an elastic plastic material. The spacer material of the curtains (2) is produced from heat-resistant materials that resist the enormous temperatures prevailing in tunnel fires. A compressed-gas container (8) for filling the hollow body (1) is mounted on the tunnel roof (16). The fire bulkhead according to the invention solves the problem of heat development separately from the problem of smoke. The hollow body (1) and the curtains (2) therefore form separate functional units and can be assembled in a simple manner and from materials that are suitable for the purpose of their use.
