[origin: EP1505205A1] In a papermaking process a paper web is glazed under pressure as it passes (L) with a belt (20) through a nip (10) formed between a shoe (18) and an overhead drum (12). The shoe has a series of pressure actuators (24) located under a flexible cap (22). The rows of actuators (24) may be selected or deselected to vary the degree of glazing.
