The self-adhesive label (201) has at least one upper film layer (202) and a non-adhesive grip tab. The label material is prepared from a web and, at the grip tab, the under side is reinforced by an inserted material section (205b) as part of a film layer (205a,205b) under the upper film layer. The material section, under the first adhesive layer (203), is formed by stamping a film into the two sections, with a lower non-stick layer (207) for the tab. The larger stamped section (205a) is peeled from the adhesive layer by a release layer (204).
