[origin: WO03085017A1] A method for the production of polyoxymethylene is disclosed by the bringing in contact of a formaldehyde source with a catalyst of formula (I), where M = Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Re, Fe, Ru, Os, Co, Rh or Ir, Cp = cyclopentadienyl ligands C5H(5-u) R<1>u, where u = 0 to 5, R<1> = alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, heteroaryl, aralkyl, COOR<2>, COR<2>, CN or NO2, R<2 >= H, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, v = 1 or 2, each L independently = nitrile, CO or a ligand which may be displaced by CO, w = a whole number from 0 to 4, Z = an anion and m and n independently = a whole number from 1 to 3.
