[origin: WO03100961A1] The invention relates to a motor drive for step switches, tap changers or plunger core coils which have an improved operational protective device. Two additional cam contractors (S1, S2) are connected to the control circuit such that when only one of the two cam contractors is respectively in the closed position during commutation, verification occurs as to whether the motor contractor (K1, K2) and stepping relay (K20) of the motor drive is in a state required for normal operation. If this is not the case at one moment in time, the protective motor switch (Q1) is triggered and the motor drive is brought to a stand still.
