Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03099471A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for processing flat mailings, according to which two or more piles of mailings, the destination addresses of which are known and which are sorted according to the distribution order, are separated by means of a separating device (3), are directed onto a common transport path (4), and are then jointly stacked in the order in which the mailings have been transported. The separation process is timed in such a way that the joined mailings are transported on the transport path (4) in the order in which they are to be distributed based on the known destination addresses. A unit (6) detecting the destination addresses on the mailings and a sensor arrangement (7) detecting the leading and trailing edges of the mailings are disposed along the transport path (4). The mailings are then separated via a separating element (8) onto two following transport paths (9, 10) which are rejoined at the ends thereof, at least one of said transport paths (9, 10) being provided with a braking/accelerating module (11,12). The mailings that succeed each other upstream from the separating element (8) are moved towards each other if the detection unit (6) detects a reversed order in the flow of mailings such that the mailings are redirected in the correct order while a minimum distance is maintained between the mailings downstream from the junction in order for the mailings to be stacked.
