[origin: WO03102384A1] The invention relates to a hydraulically actuated, preferably variable valve drive of an internal combustion engine comprising a slave unit (15) which is embodied as a separate component compared to a master cylinder. A special characteristic of said invention is that the slave unit is provided with a hydraulic backlash compensation element (9) which is connected to a path (12) for feeding the hydraulic medium exclusively on the outside of a stroke phase of a slave piston (5). As a result, an easy-to produce valve drive comprising a slave cylinder (15) is provided. Unnecessary pumping up of the backlash compensation element (9) is prevented during the stroke phases (9) of the slave cylinder (5) by virtue of the above mentioned impingement of hydraulic means.
