Abstract (en)
An improved stapler (10) having a pair of stapler arms (20,30) pivotally secured in confronting relation with one another, a first of the arms (20) containing a plurality of staples (15) and structured to dispense one of the staples (15) towards the other arm (30) upon being pivotally moved towards the other arm and meeting resistance. An opener segment (40) is further provided and extends along a length of one of the arms (20,30), the opener segment (40) including a proximal end (42) and a distal end (44), with the proximal end secured to the arm. A blade (60) is disposed between the opener segment (40) and the arm (30) to which it is secured, at generally the proximal end (42) of the opener segment which tapers towards its distal end (44) so that the distal end (44) can be introduced into a fold (52) defined by a closure flap of an envelope (50) until the envelope engages the blade (60) and is cut thereby to open it. <IMAGE>
