Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2004000580A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for monitoring the operating state of at least one tire of a vehicle depending on whether a trailer is coupled to the vehicle. According to the invention, the operating state of the tire, i.e., the tire state is monitored for changes. The operation of the vehicle with a trailer changes the distribution of the axle load between front and rear axle of the towing vehicle. This change manifests itself in modified slip conditions for the wheels on the front and on the rear axle and results in the wheel speeds in the trailer operation differing from those in the operation without trailer under otherwise identical conditions. The invention is particularly characterized in that the monitoring of the tire state based on the wheel speeds is modified in response to the recognition of an operation of the vehicle with a trailer. This modification can be used to detect for example the pressure loss of a tire with a better accuracy of detection.
