[origin: WO2004004868A1] The invention relates to a filter element comprising a filter medium and a reinforcing structure provided with open areas. The filter medium is made of a metal or a metal alloy and is covering the open areas of the reinforcing structure. The reinforcing structure comprises at least an outer layer of a thermoplastic polymer material. The connection between the metal fiber fleece and the reinforcing structure is obtained by inserting the filter medium at least partially in the at least partially softened thermoplastic polymer material. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing a filter element.
