[origin: EP1375025A1] The method for production of a metal can and lid uses a lid ring attached to the open end of the can to define an opening which is closed by a membrane. In the method a cylindrical ring is formed around the lid ring. A cylindrical seamless can blank (10) is made and the cylindrical ring separated from it. The height of the blank is selected so that it can be further shaped either by separation, or after separation of the cylindrical ring.
