[origin: WO2004003366A1] The invention relates to a method for controlling a fuel metering system of an internal combustion engine during which an activating duration of at least one electrically actuating injector (18) stipulates the quantity of fuel to be injected. In certain operating states, the minimum activating duration is determined, during which fuel was only just injected. Starting from an initial value, the activating duration is increased or reduced, and the activating duration, during which a signal undergoes a change, is stored as the minimum activating duration. The inventive method is characterized in that the difference between the activating duration, during which the signal undergoes a change, and the stored minimum activating duration is determined, and from this, correction values for the quantity characteristic diagram of the injector (18) are established and stored by using at least one transfer function (U1, U2, U3), which characterizes the correlation between the minimum activating duration and the activation durations at several test points (VE1, VE2, LL, EM, VL) of the injector (18) and/or the correlation between the activation durations at different test points of the injector (18).
