[origin: EP1520827A1] To control the tension of a yarn (F) at a bobbin winder, where it is drawn from a cop (2) by a take-off (5) to be passed to a reciprocating yarn guide (12), a control value is derived for the yarn feed speed. The yarn tension is measured by a sensor (6) according to its position, and tension deviations are taken into account for the control value. There is a continuous synchronizing between the position of the yarn guide and the yarn feed control (18), giving a yarn tension value related to yarn guide positions. The yarn tension is measured a number of times at fixed positions in the movement path of the yarn guide during a stroke, and the values are established over a number of yarn laying cycles. Yarn tension problems are identified by a deviation of the actual position-related value from the value derived from the values obtained from the laying cycles.
