[origin: EP1522616A1] A circular garment is knitted on a flat bed knitting machine with the front knitted on the front needle bed and the back on the rear needle bed. In the front shoulder region (C) stitches are formed over the full width of the body (2). In the back shoulder region (C') fewer stitches are formed than the body width (2'). After the last row the parts (2, 2') are joined by transferring stitches between the two needle beds. In the shoulder region (C, C') both front and back (2, 2') have the same number of rows of stitches. Transfer of the stitches starts at the outer edges of the fabric. The reduction of stitches on back (2') starts at the edges and can be linear, stepped or varied as desired.
