Threads led through the clamping points are carried by transfer clamps and suction into the thread joining unit (24) : The clamping roller pair is driven by a drive unit which can be moved together with the thread joining unit. The drive unit and relevant clamping roller pair are brought into operative connection after start up. Before separation, the working thread (7) is carried by the conveying unit to form a thread loop. The thread loop is sucked into a suction tube (30) to the thread joining unit (24). During movement to another clamping location, the end of the separated working thread is drawn exclusively by suction effect, into the suction tube at the thread joining unit. The supply thread to be connected to the separated working thread, or the end held in the clamping point is likewise sucked into the suction tube during the transfer. Subsequently, both thread ends held in the suction tube are joined at a single location outside the suction tube. Following joining, thread ends remaining in the suction tube are cut off and sucked away via the suction tube. The new working thread (7') is ejected from the thread connecting unit using a blowing nozzle (31). An independent claim is included for corresponding equipment.

Die Vorrichtung verfügt über eine Mehrzahl von nebeneinanderliegenden Klemmstellen (12), die zwischen einer Offenstellung und einer Schliessstellung verstellbar sind. Die Klemmstellen halten in der Schliessstellung eine Mehrzahl von Vorratsfäden, während wenigstens eine Klemmstelle in der Offenstellung zur Durchführung wenigstens eines bewegten Arbeitsfadens bestimmt ist. Entlang der Klemmstellen (12) ist eine Fadenverbindungseinrichtung (24), beispielsweise ein Knoter, an einem Schlitten 10 verschiebbar. Der Schlitten trägt ausserdem eine Fadentrennvorrichtung. Auf diese Weise kann das Ende eines abgetrennten Arbeitsfadens zu einer anderen Klemmstelle gefahren und mit dem dort gehaltenen Fadenende eines Vorratsfadens zu einem neuen Arbeitsfaden verbunden werden. Die einzelnen Klemmstellen (12) sind als Fördervorrichtung ausgebildet, mit welcher in der Schliessstellung zum Vorbereiten des Verbindungsvorgangs die durchgeführten Fäden in die Fadenverbindungseinrichtung einführbar sind. Die Fördervorrichtung besteht vorteilhaft aus einem Klemmwalzenpaar mit einer Presswalze (13) und einer Treiberwalze (14). <IMAGE>
