[origin: WO2004002769A1] The invention relates to a speed awareness device for vehicles. The device comprises a speed limiting function and a speed alerting function and is adapted for use with a vehicle having an electronic road speed sensor. The device comprising a means to programme a vehicle speed into the device, wherein in use the device is adapted to compare vehicle speed with a pre-selected vehicle speed and is adapted to provide a speed awareness indication as the vehicle speed approaches the pre-selected speed. A device so arranged may help to prevent over speeding and may reduce the vehicle running costs and may also provide an improvement of corporate image. This may be particularly advantageous for the operators of company cars or commercial fleets. The device may also benefit the driver by protecting his or her livelihood by preventing speeding fines or even a driving ban.
