[origin: WO2004013817A2] The invention relates to a device and method for processing security documents, consisting of a verification of a security element of said security document, especially a verification of the manner and/or authenticity and/or negotiability of a security document with an optically variable effect. Said security elements can be verified in a particularly simple and reliable manner by virtue of the fact that the light emitted from an illuminated area of the security element is machine captured in one or several directions which do not correspond to the direction of reflection and the illuminated area is image captured.
