Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1528028A2] The brake (1) has a housing (2) that is formed with a U-shaped cross-section, and two brake halves (3), each with active and passive brake linings (4, 5). A compression spring (6) activates the active brake lining and produces braking force against a brake surface when an actuator is deactivated. The passive brake lining is activated when one of the brake halves fails. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating a brake for a lift.
