[origin: EP1528029A1] The cleaning device for the cleaning of a moving unit with step units connected to an endless conveyor has cleaning elements (24,26) installed on the cleaning device and designed to clean the areas of the moving unit adjacent to the step units when the endless conveyor is in motion. The cleaning device during the cleaning process can be substituted for at least one of the step units, and after the cleaning process is finished can be dismantled again. The cleaning elements may be constructed as brush arrangements and/or as sponge arrangements and/or as cloth arrangements. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a moving unit in the form of an escalator or moving pavement with the aforesaid cleaning device; and (B) a method for the executing of a cleaning sequence for an escalator or moving pavement using the aforesaid cleaning device.
