[origin: EP1389885A1] Method for transmitting control information concerning a data transmission channel between a network element and a mobile station in a high speed data access system (HSDPA). whereby a control channel is related to the data transmission channel, and encoded channel information is transmitted on said control channel, whereby said channel information is encoded by using an encoding rule comprising an amount of codewords, said encoding rule assigning a certain piece of channel information to a related codeword of the amount of codewords, whereby at least one codeword of the amount of codewords is not required for encoding the channel information and is used to encode control information by assigning a certain piece of control information to a related codeword of the amount of codewords, thus transmitting the encoded control information via the control channel. <??>The encoded control information can be a measurement characteristics message for changing the rate of measurements or for requesting an additional measurement and is sent in an HS-SCCH. <IMAGE>
