[origin: DE10238144A1] Use of aryl-substituted 3,6-dialkylidene-2,5-piperazinedione derivatives (I) as photostable UV filters in cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions for protecting human skin or hair against solar radiation, is new. Use of aryl-substituted 3,6-dialkylidene-2,5-piperazinedione derivatives of formula (I) as photostable UV filters in cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions for protecting human skin or hair against solar radiation, where (I) is used alone or in combination with conventional UV absorbers (II), is new. R1, R2 = H or 1-12C alkyl; and R3-R6 = H, 1-12C alkyl or aryl, provided that at least one is aryl. An Independent claim is also included for light protectant-containing cosmetic or pharmaceutical preparations for protecting the human epidermis or skin against UV-light in the 280-400 nm region, comprising (I) (as photostable-UV filter) and optionally (II) in a suitable carrier.
