[origin: WO2004018216A1] The invention relates to a device and a method for labeling objects, particularly food packagings. Said device comprises a printer, particularly a thermal printer, a system for applying a printed label to each object that is to be labeled, and at least one effective system in the form of a scale, packaging device, and/or conveying device for the objects that are to be labeled, said at least one effective system being arranged upstream of the applying system. In order to increase the durability of the printhead and improve the printing quality, the inventive labeling device is provided with a measuring and control unit which determines the amount of time available for printing each object that is to be labeled by taking into account the required active time of the effective system(s), and controls the printer such that the label is fully printed at the lowest possible printing speed.
