[origin: WO2004018050A1] The aim of the invention is to provide a technical solution for a fire extinguishing installation for tunnels with which a source of fire can be fought in a targeted, effective and sustained manner and which simultaneously guides traffic. To this end, the invention provides a fire extinguishing installation consisting of: a) a rail (3) that is arranged above the traffic route; b) at least two extinguishing units (4), which are guided on the rail (3) and via which the drive system (5) is connected thereto, whereby each of the extinguishing units (4) is comprised of: i) a reservoir (7) for propellant; ii) a reservoir (6) for extinguishing agent that is connected to at least one positionable nozzle (10) via a system of conduits; iii) at least one sensor (11), and the extinguishing units are comprised of; iv) couplings (13) placed at both ends, and the extinguishing installation also consists of; c) smoke and heat-buildup sensors (14) that are placed at a certain distance from one another inside the tunnel.
