Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2004020242A1] The invention relates to a method for detecting the occupancy state of a seat (1), especially in a motor vehicle (5), used with respect to retaining means (8) which are allocated to said seat (1)according to occupancy-state-dependent control, wherein a 3D image (15) of said seat (1) is detected using an image detection system (16) and is evaluated with respect to the occupancy state, optionally also in respect to the type of occupancy. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out said method. According to the invention, a 3D form model (14) is used, said model being provided externally or being generated internally in an initialization step. A hierarchically structured evaluation according to the assessment of the occupancy state also enables classification of the respective occupancy.
